The Friends of Boyd Hill are partnering with Heinrich Ecological Services to provide a members-only opportunity to to learn about the ecology of  gopher tortoises, while participating in actual wildlife research.

All participants are required to be official City of St. Petersburg volunteers, a process which involves the completion of a simple, on-line volunteer form, available at  http://www.stpeteparksrec.org/boyd-hill-volunteer.html.  If you have any questions regarding this step, please contact Stephanie Coutant (BHNP preserve ranger) at stephanie.coutant@stpete.org or(727) 893-7326. Project volunteers do not need to attend a volunteer orientation or do a background check (please disregard any instructions from the City indicating otherwise).

We will meet at the Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center (Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, 1101 Country Club Way S., St. Petersburg, Florida) and will start promptly at 8:00 am.  Please plan to arrive a little early if you need time to get ready.  Registrants are strongly encouraged to wear long pants, a hat, and boots if you have them.   Bring adequate food, fluids, sunscreen, and whatever other supplies that you will need to make yourself comfortable.  Use of a backpack will make it much easier if you plan to carry things in the field. This work is not suitable for children.
